I hope that you’ve not been hit by the post-Christmas season blues quite as hard as I have but, if you have, here are a few things to read or watch to take you’re mind off how short the days are:
More Movies at Sundance Are Sidestepping the Big Screen – article from the NYT:
“Agents say that digital sales are starting to make up the slack at Sundance. […] But most filmmakers have a more pessimistic view of digital distribution, saying that the money from those deals does not routinely reach them.“- ‘The Field Recordist’ Film – weirdly introverted, unfinished short that bills itself as an ‘autobiographical film’. I’m not sure that the autobiographical genre is about to explode, and yet I found this oddly compelling.
- How Cinematographer Hoyte Van Hoytema Made ‘Her’ Beautiful – gotta love me some cinematography
- Transcribe is a Free, Keyboard-Friendly Transcription Tool – if, like me, you have to transcribe interviews for your producers after 1st assembly, this tool might be useful to both of us.
- Make a Cheap DIY Solar Filter for DSLR Cameras – not something you’ll need often, but it you ever need to film the sun, or an eclipse, for any reason, at least you’ll now know how.
- Scorsese Says Cinema Has a Bright Future, Here’s Why – of course, it’s easy for him to say: he’s fff-ing Martin ff-ing Scorsese. Still, worth reading.
- Thinking about Simple, Web-Based Storytelling
- A Beginner’s Guide to Basic Steadicam Positions – not the karmasutra for camera men, as I first thought, but interesting nonetheless.
- Five Big Social Media Trends for 2014
- How To Be Prolific: Guidelines for Getting It Done from Joss Whedon – it’s no secret that I want to be Mr Whedon – failing that, I guess I could try and work like him. Then again, he’s so far ahead of me, what’s the point? Maybe I’ll just eat a Twinkie and read about how he get’s it done. You should too – great article from Fast Company.
